Supplier was prompt, courteous and helpful. The remote would be more useful if you did not have to point at front of camera only. The smallness of the product makes it more difficult to hold and use without dropping.

Works great for our Rebel T1i! As I had read, you do need to be in front of the camera and have line of sight. I love the 2 second delay in order to hide the remote in family shots. Easily clips to camera strap.

"No more waiting 10 seconds" 2010-02-13
By Katherine Barney (Columbus, OH)
My husband and I really like this remote control. It is really nice to be able to take a self portrait without having to wait 10 seconds for the self-timer. The only thing I don't like about it is that you have to have the camera on self-timer to make it work. You don't have to wait like the self-timer but it has to be set that way. We continually forget that it is on self-timer and so we sometimes forget to take it off. We like that it is small and we can clip it right onto the camera strap - very easy to keep with the camera!

Great device simple to use and very portable especially like the clip on holder that attaches to your camera strap.Does the job well 2 settings for instant and 2 second delay good range as long as you are in front of the camera.Remote unclips from holder on the strap and can be easily replaced after the shot. Battery is a typical watch type that can be purchased at walmart all in all a very handy and useful investment.

"A fantastic camera for the amateur or the enthusiast!" 2009-12-06
By Findedeux
I have had this camera for over five (5) years and I absolutely love it. I have never had any problems with this camera and it has performed amazingly. I have taken around 50,000 pictures with my Rebel and it is still going strong. I have the same original batteries that I got with my camera. My batteries have always lasted a long time before needing to be recharged; when I shot sports I could use one battery for roughly the whole day. Canon products are very high quality, which is what you can expect with brand name Japanese electronics. The Canon lenses are also fantastic; I have owned the high-quality standard 50/1.4, the portrait 85/1.8, the mid telephoto 70-200/4.0, the amazing 100/2.8 macro, and the wide-angle 17-40 L. These are all fantastic lenses to put on your Rebel, and you can rest assured that there is a whole range of Canon products to suit your needs. The only downside to these products is that they are quite expensive.

As far as the Rebel, the only complaints I have are these:

1. The amount of noise at 1600 ISO makes these pictures generally unusable.

2. The AF system is not robust enough for sports; you can do it but it's hard.

3. The grip, somewhat small, can take getting used to.

4. The camera can't take too many RAW or high quality JPEG pictures in succession (important for sports).

In general this camera is a dream for most peoples uses. Eight MP will give you high-quality prints. Unless you want to blow up your pictures to poster size this camera will be great for you.

"awesome...no need to spend more" 2009-12-04
By Douglas Marshall (South Florida)
I'm a professional photographer who not only started out with this camera but still use it exclusively. Now with that said, I did invest in some high quality but affordable glass and some off camera flashes with triggers. The next step up from this camera would probably be a full frame camera that would cost thousands of dollars. This little affordable camera will take you VERY far. It has plenty of megapixels even for enlargements up to 11X14 without losing quality. I shoot models, family portraits and weddings and have never wished for a better camera. I think my only complaint and it's minor, is that the LCD screen is rather small. If you want to see the quality this is capable of check out my flickr site [...]

Buy this camera with the 50mm F/1.8 lens, the 18-55mm IS lens and a cheap Sunpak 383 flash and you'll be happy with your pictures -providing you read up on how to use it to maximize the quality of this camera. Good place to start is blogs and especially the forums on flickr....everything you ever wanted to know or ask has already been addressed there...just search

"Fantastic entry-level camera; will frustrate more advanced users." 2009-10-26
By Macilwen (Cornland)
Allow me to preface this review by saying that I love my little Rebel and would hate to part from it. It was great when I was just learning how to deal with a dSLR - easy to use, simple controls, intuitive (much more so than the Nikon I use occasionally)...all-around a great little guy.

However, for the really serious photographer, it leaves some things to be desired. The autofocus is slow, and faulty for dark places. The ISO goes only to 1600, and even then the noise is nearly unmanageable. 1600 is not that great either - I am lucky that I have a f/1.8 lens. There have been times where I have shot at f/1.8, 1/30, and still been underexposing by 2/3 of a stop. Thank goodness for the RAW format!

For what it is, the Rebel is great. Just don't expect it to be more.

Oh - and that 18-55 f/3.5-5.6? it is a good thing to skip. Get a 50mm f/1.8 instead, or a Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4.5, or be like me and get an 85mm f/1.8. All better lenses, and the 50mm is even less expensive.

 "Beware of lemons" 2009-07-16
By M.A.A. (Washington State)
I received my Canon Digital Rebel XT in 1/08. Despite some minor complaints with the design of the camera, I enjoyed it for just over 12 months until it seemed the battery was quickly fizzling out and then suddenly stopped powering on all together. I thought it was a poor battery so I ordered 2 more, which had no effect. Canon tech support was compltely useless and bascially told me that the only option was to send it in. There are not local shops to fix these cameras because they are so intricate and specialized. So I went ahead and spent the money to send it in, which isn't cheap when you add the insurance factor. Now I just found out that it will cost $228 to get the thing fixed. That's a lot of money for something I owned for such a short period of time! However, I feel it has to be paid because of the amount of money I already invested in it and how much more it would cost just to buy a new camera. To add to my frustrations they never indicated what was wrong with the camera. All I was told was how much it would cost to fix it. Just like another reviewer asked, is it wrong to think that such an expensive piece of equipment should last longer than 13-14 months? Needless to say I have lost my faith in Canon and don't plan on buying another one of their cameras. Now that I go back and look at these camera reviews again I am seeing that other people had the same problem as me...what a disappointment.

FYI - Should this happen to you and you haven't sent your camera in yet, the written warranty is 12 months, but the Canon repair rep told us they will honor warranty repairs up to 14 months (they don't advertise that).

 "Excellent introduction camera" 2010-02-24
By C. Tsai
I bought this camera about 3 months ago and I am extremely happy with my purchase. I own a point and shoot camera as well (Sony W280) and got sick of the blurring and noise that you get at higher ISOs. So I decided to go with a DSLR. Not knowing what to purchase I just went with the two largest brands, Nikon and Canon and looked at the features and ended up going with the Rebel XSI due to the price at the time (it was on sale). Honestly though, this camera is amazing, being able to do high motion and low light shots with a high ISO without having the image look like you sprayed it with red dust confetti is awesome. I've recommended this to several of my friends who are going to get one as soon as they have the money to spend.

If you're considering a DSLR, I would seriously consider the XSI. I also recommend it for people just going into DSLR photography. It truly is an awesome unit.

The biggest issue I have with it though is the transferring of pictures through the given USB cord. I went on a safari with friends and took about 1300 pictures and while the pictures were gorgeous, just getting them onto my macbook via USB was a pain. Apparently it goes through all of the pictures on the camera then connects itself as a device on the machine. My tip... use an external SD card reader. However, for small amounts of pictures, the USB transfer is fine.

 "Wonderful camera" 2010-02-22
By Michael Trahan (Chicago area, USA)
I had this camera for over a year and a half before I bought a Canon 7D. I loved it then and still love it. I reluctantly gave it to a son so that it would continue to get full use and bring joy. The only reason I upgraded was:

-- Better high ISO image quality

-- Better AF tracking for birds in flight, one of my primary shooting targets

I'm glad I did. The 7D is a great camera but the body only is $1600. Unless those things truly matter to you (there are other differences too), the XSi is terrific.

I won't repeat the detailed comments in other reviews but will comment on some other comments:

-- Construction, weight, feel - the 7D is definitely heavier but the XSi felt fine in my hands. One of my primary lenses is the 100-400mm L which weighs 3lbs. I find talk of an unbalanced feel (with any lens) somewhat nonsense at least for my hands. For carrying around, hiking, birding, I wish the 7D was lighter like the XSi.

I was too conservative at shooting only at 400 ISO and below. Pushing higher to 800 is ok when needed.

Purchased the XSi plus some lenses/accessories at Amazon. Have been very happy with them.

"A Great DSLR Going Strong After 2 Years" 2010-02-22
By Robert Stone (Midwest / Ohio)
I bought this when it first came out in 2008 prior to a trip to Disney. It replaced an original Digital Rebel (6.3 MP) which was also a great camera (which I passed down ?up to my Dad). Getting this camera has taken my photography to a whole new level - it is a great camera. It is easy to use and takes sharp pictures. The user interface is well done and will be second nature to anyone with experience with a Canon (even point and shoots). The easiest thing to do is to use it in "full auto" mode for a while but don't get complacent and keep it there for the life of the camera - try turning that dial and repeating shots so you can learn all that this wonderful unit is capable of. At the price point this is really too good to pass up.

If you are considering this camera vs. the point and shoot variety, I have found the main two advantages of DSLR to be the lack of delay in shutter release and of course the clarity of the pictures with the larger lenses. The first issue is often of paramount importance in taking pictures of kids and pets - they never stay still for long! With regards to picture quality, it is interesting that manufacturers "push" the megapixels so much on the point and shoots. PLEASE don't make the mistake of thinking that 12 MP on a point and shoot will come anywhere near the pictures from this camera (provided a good lens is attached). There really is no comparison. I have several point and shoot cameras (which I have also reviewed) and though they trump the DSLR for portability (or ability to immerse in water for the D10) there is no comparison for picture quality.

I have recently upgraded lenses with the addition of two "L" lenses (which work great with the XSI) and may upgrade to the new Rebel T2i in the future for both improved sensitivity (ISO 6400 on that camera, 1600 max on this one) and the ability to record HD video, which this camera does not have. That said, this camera has served me very well and will continue to do so. As another reviewer pointed out, the battery life on this one is terrific - I bought a second battery but have only rarely used it (though I rotate them, of course).

In summary, this is a terrific camera which I would highly recommend to anyone considering "making the jump" to DSLR.

Just got the camera and haven't had any of the focusing problems others have complained about. I even put an old 35-80mm lens that came with my old 35mm Rebel (no image stabilization) and took some action pics of my dog playing in the yard. I was very happy with the results.

Note that I'm not a pro and usually rely on the auto mode. Maybe my standards are a bit too low, but if I can take good pictures of a miniture schnauzer running around with her toys, then anyone should be able to get good results.

Especially liked the lack of the shutter lag time. Not even Penny could escape it like she would our Fuji point and shoot.

Very happy with it so far. Now I just have to learn how to master the other features.

By T. Luo (honolulu, HI USA)
pro: faster shutter speed than my high end point and shoot and thats a given although my lx2 cost more than this with lens and kit lol. LONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG battery life. i've taken over 1000 photos and it only consumed half the battery. takes sdhc cards instead of compact flash. non of my computers have those compactflash slots.

con: red pixel hot spots? i supposed this is a gamble but i'm getting it exchanged. doesnt do well in dark area shutter speed becomes much slower when taking those without flash on.

it is not a machine gun but 3 photos per second aint bad for the price. i was originally looking at the 7d but ended up buying this instead so i can get some good lens with it.

 "Wonderful camera" 2010-02-24
By Joan Spinner (Hyattsville, MD United States)
I'm still working on learning all the features but even just with the fully automatic is is great. Any SLR takes some time to learn but I can't fault the quality of the pictures. Auto focus is the only thing I'm not totally pleaed with because it will get confused at times and start going back and forth so you loose the shot or switch to manual and the ring is a bit small for accurate focusing.

 "not made for man-hands" 2010-02-24
By Shelby L. Condray (2nd star to the right)
Well, my friends warned me but I didn't listen. "That camera is too small for the over-sized paws you call hands." "I saw it at the store and it looks cheap and plasticky."

I read the reviews here and thought I made a great choice. Ok, so it arrived and was a bit cheap feeling. I was going on a trip and needed something light. This would be perfect!

About 4,000 pictures later my hands were aching. How on earth do people use this tiny little thing?! I guess if I were a woman with tiny hands it would be great: light and easy to use. But I can palm a basketball! This thing was causing me early arthritis as I tried to manipulate my hands around it. I never had this problem with the Canon point-and-shoot pocket cams I've used, but something about this camera is horrible for my hands.

As to the camera's features, I found them usable and an INCREDIBLE deal for this price. I did have a dud camera with a bunch of stuck pixels or something (a red spot in every photo) but Canon was great at offering to repair it.

video works great for what most of us do anyway (sound was not so good though), the sensor size is large enough to produce some clean shots given good lighting and even some usable shots in low light (I'm not a fan of high-iso photos no matter what the manufacturer says their software smoothing is doing).

Who should buy this? A mom (or other person with small hands... these do tend to be women) who wants a good camera to take pictures at soccer games or family vacations but doesn't want something so expensive it becomes a target for theft. With the release of the t2i, this should drop in price and make it a really great deal. It would also be an awesome gift for a kid who is starting to be interested in photography. I would have LOVED it as a teenager.

I ended up returning it rather than having it repaired by Canon, and then proceeded to drop a lot more money on the Canon 7D, which fits in my hands nicely (especially with the battery grip) and has a better low-light sensor.

By C. Griffin (Chicago,IL,USA)
When I first received my t1i it wasnt packaged very well, there was a lot of room in the box and on the top of the box the one and only layer of tape was broken. Now I'm not entirely sure if it was because of the poor packaging or because of faulty hardware but the camera didnt work properly. the easiest way to explain the fault was it looked like a dead pixel on an iphone or lcd monitor except for it was redish/orange square. it was on every video I captured. had it for less than a week sent it back yesterday.

I have had this camera for about a month. Took it on vacation in Lake Placid, the photos were amazing. Used mostly auto feature and they are like professional pictures. Haven't tried the video part but a couple times, but know it will work well. Definitely get the generic battery rather than the actual Canon one, works the same. A superb camera just will take time to understand all features. Did get another manual for it that has more details than the one it came with.

 "Excellent Camera" 2010-02-14
By C. McDonald
This camera is fantastic! Go to any website and it's compared to cameras that are 200-300 more, not it's true competitors when you look at price. Pictures are crisp, it's easy to use in full auto mode, and the ISO settings are easy to change for low light situations. I couldn't be more happy with this purchase. Battery life is good, and if you get the 8 gb card, you'll have more storage than you will need. 3.4 frames per second make grabbing that great picture easy. Bottom line, for the money you can't beat it. If you want the best, go with the Canon D7 of the Nikon D90. If want great pictures at a somewhat affordable price, get this camera.

I bought this bag for my Canon Rebel XS camera. I have seen the same bag at another store for $120, so I decided to get it from Amazon. It's the perfect bag! well made, not too small, not too big. A lot of pockets for additional lenses, flash, battery and charger etc... It's a real value for the money considering that the battery itself sell for $40 and the filter another $14. I am very pleased with the bag and I would recommend to anyone.

This bag is very durable and roomy but not too bulky to carry comfortably. I love it! The extra battery pack and UV filter are necessities if you just purchased a Canon EOS Rebel SLR camera. The same bag/battery pack/filter combo at my local electronics store was 149.00. I was very happy with the price I paid on Amazon.com and delivery was very fast. I would recommend this item to anyone!

 "Well Worth The Money" 2010-01-16
By J. Mayle
I actually paid $99 for mine yesterday at Office Depot. First let me state that if you're looking for a compact bag this IS NOT the one for you. We bought a Rebel XS and also the longer zoom lens. We needed a case that could hold the camera with that zoom lens on plus have a place to store it when not using it. Holsters were out of the question due to the extra lens. Most of the bags I found (that didnt cost a fortune) wouldnt fit the bill, there was always something about them that wouldnt work...beit size, way the camera sat inside, openings, etc. I came across this Canon Rebel bag and thought I'd try it since it was named after the camera I bought. I got it home and found it VERY spacious with a really nice default layout of the dividers inside (which are removable and changeable via their velcro). After fitting the two flapped dividers in the middle for my SLR I then realized I had four other areas left. I stuck in the extra lens, perfect fit. I then stuck my Sony HD Video camera lens-up in one of the other areas. Then I put my Sony Point-And-Shoot in one of the nice size side pockets. Added my batteries and memory cards and found that all my photographic devices all fit in this one bag and STILL had one area left that would be perfect for another lens ( but I used this one to stuff my strap down in which was convenient). I lifted the bag and it was not heavy at all which suprised me. The pad on the shoulder strap is REALLY nice and thick. The top closes via dual zipper or you can leave it unzipped and just use the plastic clasp for quick access. It has the waist strap ties but I doubt I'll never use them. The bottom has a hardened rubber part so you won't trash your bag no matter where you set it. OH and let me also say the extra battery it came with was a REAL plus, as was the UV lens filter which screwed on the end of my lens and perfectly accomodated my lens cap.

 "Good Kit" 2010-01-05

This came with my T1i. I don't know if it's worth $100 by itself. You definitely will need an extra battery, and having the UV filter is nice for protection purposes. The bag is just OK. Maybe because I prefer backpacks. I used some quad shox to turn it into a backpack and it works ok. I can carry the T1i body, 3 lenses, filters, cables and strap the tripod below.

Bought camera for my husband as Christmas/Retirement present. He was impressed with the package of stuff that came along with the camera and the bag, everything fit well into the bag, including an additional lens he recently purchased. Excellent deal, great package, timely arrival. Happy customer.

"Nice Price and great product" 2009-12-15
By W. Shepard (St. Louis, MO)
I was looking online for a new video card and the one I found required me to have a 600 watt or higher power supply. I found this great deal on an 850 watt power supply. It runs quiet and was easy to install. I thought I had forgot a step because I was done in a matter of minutes. I have installed power supplies before but, this was very simple. I love the mesh cables, makes it very easy to manage. I don't have any cons at this timne.

 "Canon XS DSLR" 2009-11-30

I have been shooting with film SLR all my life and I finally made the jump to digital this year. I was very excited about the deal i got because it came with a camera case, a sd card usb port, 2 batteries (which last forever), a charger, and a carrying strap. For the price it is a great camera. The quality is amazing, especially with the Image Stabilizing lens that it came with.
