This camera has served me well in professional as well as hobbyist capacity. The ability to shoot in RAW format, shoot at a burst rate with no lag is awesome. Lens is same as Canon releases today on the XTi. I've used telephoto lens from Canon and it works great on this camera. I have noticed that compared to my friend's XTi, the DR requires more work from the user to get the same quality, specifically in full auto mode there is a difference. The small view finder and small metering display, as well as the flash are all a let down when comparing to newer DSLRs. But, if you find one of these it will be much cheaper and still very useful. I've used this camera to place images into large 11X17 and larger movie posters and the images look superb. If you have 300 bucks dont hesitate, this camera is one of the best deals for the money. And the lens will still work for you when you upgrade to a pro model.

I purchased this camera January 2005, my first digital SLR. This camera works great most of the time, does everything it is suppose to for the price I paid for. The few times it didn't work is in focusing. Even though I know the camera is in focus, but the Digital Rebel just wouldn't take the photo kept zooming in and out of focus. So I either 1) switch to manual mode or 2) turn the camera off and turn it back on again. Either way, then it would immediately work like the camera it is suppose to. The battery does drain quite a bit if you leave it on or on a cold day. I shot a lot in darker, high speed sports related events. And this camera has performed pretty well considering it is a beginner digital SLR.

I am a hard core Technology Driven kind of guy. I am the type who people come to for technical answers, Computers, Laptops, Printers, and even Digital Cameras. My first exposure (no pun intended) with this camera happened when my estranged father came back in to my life, and to overcompensate for being out of my life for many many years, he gave me this digital camera. After saying no for too many times, and I felt that I began to offend him, I took the camera. Let me sum this camera up in three little letters..... WOW! I can not believe how easy this camera is to operate. This camera will do two things for you. #1 it will draw you into the hobby of photography, and #2 it will make you feel like you missed your calling, and that you should have been a professional photographer. You will most likely find yourself entering photo contests! I have been blown away at the photos I have taken. I think to myself... "Did I really take that photo?" If you get the camera, make sure to get two batteries and multiple memory cards you will need them as you will find yourself taking so many pictures with this camera. I have used so many digital cameras, bit the bullet and get this one!

I had this camera for a little over a year. Takes wonderful pictures, is very easy to carry around. I upgraded to the Rebel XTI, I wanted to upgrade to the 40D but after Nikon announced the D300 I knew the Canon 40D is not worth the asking price. I settled for the XTI until a more fully featured semi pro Canon would be released at a reasonable price. If you want a camera under $600 then the 300D Rebel XT is a good choice. For almost the same price you should go with the new 400D Rebel XTI. I would personally purchase the body only and buy a good lens, the lens that come with these models are not the best.

This is one great camera! You will not find a better SLR camera for the money. I just started playing in the world of SLR's and what a great camera to start learning on. I've already had many people who have seen my photographs tell me that they look like they were shot by a professional. This camera was also shipped to me really fast and I could not find it cheaper anywhere else!

In my humble opinion, any beginner to intermediate photographer cannot go wrong with this camera. I may not have the experience like some but I will say this: As a father of 4, I have no problems getting great shots of my family at any activity. Be it indoors or out, low light or in the sun, my pictures are 90% fantastic. The other 10% is my own error (rushing the shot, moving, etc...).



It is easy to setup, takes a little more time to understand all of the features but by no means impossible. Requires a little patience and understanding (like any new device).



I purchased the telephoto lens, battery grip, lens covers and speedlight and I just love the quality, speed and ease that I have to enjoy these precious moments. And with the help of Photoshop, even little mistakes disappear. All of this for an investment of less than $1,000.



In these times when dollars are a little harder to come by, I found this to be a great value and extremely satisfying.

My first digital slr. Love it. Used to have a film Rebel G, so the learning curve on this one was pretty easy for me. I'm sure there are a million arguments for stepping up to the next dlsr in line, but I didn't see a reason for it. This is a MUCH better camera than the one I was replacing, so all the nitpicky little drawbacks ("only" 7 autofocus points, "only" 1.5 fps in raw, etc.) seem silly to me because they completely blow away my other cameras. I love this camera.

I do a lot of travel and was looking for a lower cost DSLR to take with me. After reading reviews from [...], dpreview and cnet, I decided to go with the Canon XS. I have no complaints about the ergos or the picture quality. My wife has the Nikon D60 and I consider this by far a better set up. The 7 point auto focus is a nice feature for the cost. The additional megapixels that you get with the xsi is not worth the cost in my opinion. The 2.5" screen is definitely small by today's standards, but I like the live view function (as far as I know it is the only camera at this cost that has the Live View function).



It seems that both the Nikons and the Canons low end SLRs are coming with the IS or VR lenses now. this is a nice feature, but it adds to the cost of additional lenses. Having the Stabilization technology in the body of the camera is something to consider if you will be purchasing multiple lenses. The mission for my camera only requires 2 lenses at most though.



As far as picture quality and performance go; we ran some basic tests against my wife's D60. It was very different to see the difference in the ISO tests we did. We used people in dark lit situations (more realistic than the scientific pics of cards you see on the research sites). They both are capable of about 3 frames per second which is fine for what we need, but a lot of cameras are capable of more today. The Canon beats it with the AF points and the overall feel and layout of the camera. Once you learn hoe to use the camera, both are capable of beautiful shots.



I like having it in my bag for travel. It is lower cost so I'm not totally worried about it and it is sophisticated enough to handle any type of landscape or street shot that I come across without disappointing me. Obviously I recommend it as a travel camera, but if your looking for a good family and friend upgrade from a point and shoot or a tool to launch you into "real" photography, then this is a great buy.

This is the third Canon rebel that I have owned in the past 10 years, I started in the pre-digital age with a film version. I really love this camera, it works for everything I need it to do. I am taking a photography class and this thing does all the 'tricks' needed to complete assignments, but it is also my go-to camera to use as a point and shoot with the premade settings. I like that the screen on the back is larger than my older Rebel, much easier to take a peek at what I've got. I have had no problems at all with programming or using this camera. Until I have finished photography school and actually open my own business and get a large frame camera, like a 5D, I will be sticking with the Rebel.

I have had this camera for about a month. Took it on vacation in Lake Placid, the photos were amazing. Used mostly auto feature and they are like professional pictures. Haven't tried the video part but a couple times, but know it will work well. Definitely get the generic battery rather than the actual Canon one, works the same. A superb camera just will take time to understand all features. Did get another manual for it that has more details than the one it came with.

This camera is fantastic! Go to any website and it's compared to cameras that are 200-300 more, not it's true competitors when you look at price. Pictures are crisp, it's easy to use in full auto mode, and the ISO settings are easy to change for low light situations. I couldn't be more happy with this purchase. Battery life is good, and if you get the 8 gb card, you'll have more storage than you will need. 3.4 frames per second make grabbing that great picture easy. Bottom line, for the money you can't beat it. If you want the best, go with the Canon D7 of the Nikon D90. If want great pictures at a somewhat affordable price, get this camera.

This camera was a big purchase for me and I have not regretted it for an instant. In 9 months I have taken 3000 pictures. For image quality, ease of use, and ability to utilize a range of lenses this camera is tops. Even the cheap kit lens (18-55) is a fantastic value.

Here's what I like:

Small and lightweight for an DSLR - I packback so weight and volume are important to me. This is a smaller and lighter pkg than other similar cameras.

The fabulous screen. It is a total knockout. Altho I haven't had the opportunity to use it as such yet, I want to use this camera for astrophotography. Focusing on stars can be a trick but this camera's hi res screen at 10x should allow great focus.

Qualty of the pictures is first rate. I've read about the soft-focus complaints, banding, poor color handling etc. I have not found any of this to be true. When compared with the output from Nikons taken at the same time on the same trip (and in fact significantly more expensive Canons) I see the difference is primarily in the users ability - not in the camera's capability.

Lens selection and quality - Canon and varous second tier manufacturers offer a great range of capability out there. I'm sure Nikons offer about the same but for slection and bang for the buck, the Canon line is excellent.

What would I like to see and don't. Where's my articulated screen?

I'd recommend this camera to anyone. It is a fabulous value.
